31 Days of Handmade Gifts: Day 8 {Coasters}

Welcome to Day 8! You can find the other 31 Days posts here.

Coasters are a great gift for anyone on your list, everyone has furniture they want to protect!  They also make a good gift for weddings/showers, Christmas, birthdays, Mother's/Father's Day, etc!  Here are some coaster tutorials that I have come across.

Scrabble Coasters by Crafting a Green World

These Scrabble tile coasters are too cute!  I think they would be great if they were personalized with names or something important to the recipient.  You can find Scrabble tiles on ebay, etsy or in old games at yard sales.

Tile Coasters by Light Refreshments Served

I pinned these coasters to my Pinterest board a while back.  They are a great easy and affordable project.  All you need is tiles from a home improvement store (I found them for $.13 a piece at Home Depot), scrapbook paper, modge podge and felt pads.   If you have clear spray paint or sealer they look a little more finished and seal the modge podge pretty well.  I haven't made these yet, but will post them when I do.  I really like that there are so many options for these coasters.  Besides paper you could also use fabric scraps or paint, or all three!

Fabric Coasters from Make It and Love It

I like the simplicity of these fabric coasters and that you can use any fabric.  Plus they are pretty easy to make!  I promise I didn't intend to have a tutorial from Make It and Love It every day, but some of my favorite gift ideas just happen to be things that she has made in the past.  And there are a lot of these fabric coaster tutorials out there, but I think her tutorials are some of the easiest to follow.

Fabric Coil Coasters from Two Shades of Pink

I like the rugged look of these coasters.  And I think it can look really neat when you used a variety of fabrics.  The ones above were just made with fabric strips, a clothesline from the dollar store and hot glue.   Pretty easy!

I'm sure there are a lot more coaster tutorials out there, especially on Pinterest, but these were my favorites.  Hope you like them too!

Happy Saturday!

  4. I made the tile coasters after seeing the picture on pinterest. Great project, super cheap, and looks like you bought them. Giving some away for Christmas this year. I highly recommend spraying the clean spray paint or sealer.
